Welcome to Grade 1L
Dear Parents and Families,
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a safe and wonderful summer. I want to extend to you and your child, my warmest welcome into our classroom. My name is Shavonne Wilson and I will be your child’s teacher this year. I am originally from a very small town called Biscay Bay in Newfoundland. I graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Education ( Primary/Elementary). I moved to Fort McMurray with my husnband 8 years ago and I have since started a family, I have a 5 year old son and a 3 year old daughter. This is my fifth year teaching at Timberlea and my second year teaching grade one. I am looking forward to working with you and your child throughout the academic year. My goal is to facilitate learning in an exciting and fun way.
We encourage fostering independence in the primary grades. When your child arrives at school in the morning, he or she needs to play outside with the other students until the bell rings. When the bell rings, the students line up at the doors on the far right of the front of the school, just like the “big” kids!
You child will be bringing home an agenda nightly. There will be a short message there for you. Please read and initial the message. As part of our “school routine”, the agenda needs to travel to and from school every day. Feel free to write me a note in your child’s agenda. Please remind him/her to bring the note to my attention. The second page in the agenda has a plastic folder. You may find notes and notices inside from time to time. Please check this each night.
If there are any questions that arise during the year, please do not hesitate to contact me. I welcome the opportunity to speak with you after school hours. Please write a note, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call the office at 743-5771 to let me know of a convenient time to call or meet with you. I am looking forward to a great year!
