Grade 2 - Ms. Lisa Skinner
Welcome to Grade 2!
Dear Parents and Families,
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a safe and wonderful summer. I want to extend to you and your child, my warmest welcome into our classroom. My name is Lisa Skinner and I will be your child’s teacher this year. I am originally from a very small town called Biscay Bay in Newfoundland and I have been living in Fort McMurray for almost six years. My family and I have made this town our home and we love it here. I have a son who is eight years old and a step-daughter who is seven. I graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland with a Bachelor of Education ( Primary/Elementary) Degree. This is my sixth year teaching at Timberlea Public School and my fourth year teaching grade one. I am looking forward to working with you and your child throughout the academic year. My goal is to facilitate learning in an exciting and fun way.
We encourage fostering independence in the primary grades. When your child arrives at school in the morning, he or she needs to play outside with the other students until the bell rings. When the bell rings, the students line up at the doors on the far right of the front of the school, just like the “big” kids!
Your child will be bringing home an agenda nightly. There will be a short message there for you. Please read and initial the message. As part of our “school routine”, the agenda needs to travel to and from school every day. Feel free to write me a note in your child’s agenda. Please remind him/her to bring the note to my attention. The second page in the agenda has a plastic folder. You may find notes and notices inside from time to time. Please check this each night.
If there are any questions that arise during the year, please do not hesitate to contact me. I welcome the opportunity to speak with you after school hours. Please write a note, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call the office at 743-5771 to let me know of a convenient time to call or meet with you. I am looking forward to a great year!
